This gets the honour of being the first place in the guide. Melmerby is a village just north of Penrith on the way to Alston, and the Village Bakery is known far and wide. The food is excellent and the ambiance nice if a little too busy at times. All the food is organic and the bread and cakes baked on the premises.
- Access: Wheelchair access is pretty good although you would need a hand to get in as they have a glass conservatory at the front which requires both doors to be open.
- Parking: One disabled parking spot right at the front of the building otherwise plenty of nearby flat places to park.
- Toilets: Good, Very large disabled loo which should suit most needs.
- Food: Super menu, organic, very very tasty. Desserts irresistible. Not cheap though. Good selection of teas, coffees and herbals.
- Children: No specific children's menu available, but selected items available from the main menu at 2/3 marked price.
The garden is nearly all wheelchair accessible and there are tables set at the front of the building on tarmac. Although the inside is on 2 levels with steps half is wheelchair accessible.
Overall a good location, with easy access. Great food, Well recommended by the family, although small children might get bored if they are not used to sitting around.

Went to this great place last week and it did a super lunch. Their soup is delicious and the breads really moreish.
Access is fine - make it a must if you are in the area.
Keep up the good work.
Yes, it's great Lorraine. Their porridge is pretty darn good too. Also good stop off - to/from Center Parcs...which is just down the road....
